GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The GIS Technician will be responsible for spatial data collection, analysis, and formatting; map production; database updates; and feature extraction under the supervision of a project manager. The successful candidate will utilize Geographic Information System techniques to provide a better understanding of certain variables in each geographic location for state and local government client infrastructure projects.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Most days will be spent in the Entech Civil Engineers Houston office working as a GIS technician for transportation and drainage infrastructure projects.
- May work under the direction of other GIS professionals to provide additional GIS assistance to projects.
- Utilize GIS software tools for developing solutions to complex problems.
- Generate map exhibits and GIS data sets using GIS software to supplement analysis.
- Gather, analyze, and integrate spatial data and determine the best way to generate and display information using GIS.
- Compile geographic data from a variety of sources including government GIS data, field observation, satellite imagery, aerial rasters, and existing maps.
- Utilize elevation data and extract values to generate digital terrain models for further drainage analysis.
- Analyze spatial data for geographic statistics to incorporate into documents and reports.
- Support floodplain studies, transportation projects, master plans, and revitalization projects of varying sizes and complexities in diverse communities.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
0–3 Years Recent GIS experience and Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in GIS/Geography or similar field.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Demonstrable proficiency with geographic concepts and/or GIS software (Esri ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, QGIS, etc.) and their extensions/plugins, and experience with the software in a full-time production capacity
Ability to work independently and in close collaboration with other engineers and other technical staff to deliver project plans on time.
Must have good attention to detail and be able to prioritize and balance workload appropriately.

Goal oriented with excellent communication skills.
Time management and organizational skills; ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.
